- Stop Roosting with Bird Spikes
- Frighten Birds with Faux Animals
- Install Bird Netting
Summer means it’s time to open up the outdoor seating. However, if birds bother your customers while they’re eating, they probably won’t return for seconds. Here are some bird-proof ideas to follow to keep those pesky birds away from your outdoor dining area.
Buy Some Bird Spikes
A common and often used trick for repelling birds are spikes. By placing spikes around the perimeter of your dining area, birds will be unable to land and disturb your guests. Simply buy and install to prevent birds from landing during dinner. However, as easy as spikes are to use, they may not be the most effective effort to keep those bothersome birds away.
Scare Them Away
Another commonly used bird deterrent is visual scare tactics. You can purchase decoy predatory animals and place them around your outdoor area to scare the birds away. Try foxes, owls or any other common predator to get birds flying for the hills. Just as with the spikes, these may not be the best way to keep birds out. Once the birds realize the animals aren’t moving, they will no longer be afraid.
Net it Up
Proven and adequate, netting can keep those pesky birds out. Measure the square footage of your dining area and purchase the amount you need. Be sure to purchase the proper weight of netting for the birds you are trying to deter.
Keep in mind, though, netting can be very expensive and hard to install. Not only that, but it can be unsightly and your customers may think twice before dining outside.
