Hunger is what drives birds toward your pumpkin patch. Providing alternative food sources will help distract pest birds from your pumpkins. By setting up bird feeders on the outskirts of your property, birds will feed at the feeder, not on your pumpkins. While this method may deter some birds, it will be harder to convince a hungry bird to eat the bird seed with fresh pumpkins and their seeds near by.
Create a Barrier with Netting
Netting will not stop birds from entering you pumpkin patch, but it will stop them from being able to access your pumpkins. This method is great if you have a small pumpkin patch. However, if your pumpkin patch is large and your customers get to pick out their own pumpkins, this method is highly labor intensive because netting would need to be removed each day upon opening.
